Our new Communication Arts/Film colleague, Julian Rubinstein, is a visiting filmmaker and author at Western Colorado University. His documentary, The Holly, was filmed over eight years in a gentrifying community in Denver and won several awards on the festival circuit. It is eligible for the Academy Award this year for Best Documentary. The film is executive produced by Oscar-winner Adam McKay. Rubinstein began filming while reporting his book, The Holly: Five Bullets, One Gun and the Struggle to Save an American Neighborhood, which was published by FSG in 2021. The book was a New York Times Editors’ Choice, and the winner of the 2022 Colorado Book Award and the 2022 High Plains Book Award. The screening will be followed by Q & A with Julian Rubinstein and main subject, Terrance Roberts. |
