 Textile Design: Cut Velvet Silk Scarves Using Alter Ego Dyes, learn a two-dye-in-one-bath technique to create a beautiful, 54-inch, dual colored, silk cut velvet scarf with fringe and a varied pattern. Local artist Mary Tuck begins by demonstrating the technique for the group, mixing the dual colored dye bath, submerging the scarf, heat setting the dye, rinsing, and ironing for a finished look. The two dyes are chemically created so that the silk dye only dyes the silk fibers, and the rayon dye only dyes the rayon fibers, leaving you with a two toned product. Students then mix their own batch of dyes, with each result varying based on in what ratio the dyes are added, making each scarf a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Finally, choose to dip each end of your scarf in a third dye for a graduated color finish. Your silk scarf will be ready to wear home! Instructor: Mary Tuck.
