 Clear governance and management roles are critical for nonprofit effectiveness and success. Without clear lines, areas of responsibilities, and clearly described roles, well-meaning and talented boards can often overstep into management and operational roles which as a result, can strain board/staff relations, and divert and distract boards from their critical roles in the overall governance, long-term planning, financial/fiduciary, support building, and higher level aspects of the organization. In this session, Candice Bannister, Executive Director of the Tread of Pioneers Museum in Steamboat Springs, CO, will share tips and strategies for guiding boards and staff in these distinct and very different roles, discuss where the roles do overlap, and will share examples from her trainings and 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Attendees will receive handouts and a checklist for takeaways and implementation.
