This one-hour lunch ‘n’ learn will introduce the community to the Historic Preservation Plan and learn from the nationally renowned Donovan Rypkema about his national and global research on historic preservation. Learn about why preservation matters for communities, including its social, cultural, and economic impacts. Donovan D. Rypkema is principal of PlaceEconomics and president of Heritage Strategies International. Both firms work at the nexus of economics and historic preservation. He has worked in 49 states and more than 50 countries. He is the author of numerous articles and publications as well as a book, The Economics of Historic Preservation: A Community Leader’s Guide which has been translated into Russian, Georgian, and Korean. He is also a Lecturer in the University of Pennsylvania’s graduate program in historic preservation where he received the G. Holmes Perkins Award for Distinguished Teaching. Rypkema also received the Louise du Pont Crowninshield Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the nation’s highest preservation honor given for lifetime contributions to historic preservation. He serves on the Board of Global Urban Development, the Advisory Board of Doh Eian, the Advisory Board of the Small Business Anti-Displacement Network, and the Real Estate Market advisory board of the UN Economic Commission for Europe.
