Join Dave Ochs from the Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association and Tim Kugler from Gunnison Trails on a free, guided mountain bike ride on the Deer Creek trail. This will be an intermediate to advanced ride enjoying the views of the north side of Crested Butte Mountain and the East River Drainage. The Deer Creek ride is about 25 miles that starts in Town at 8,885 feet and gains about 2,600 feet in elevation, putting you at over 10,600 feet at the top. Along the ride, there will be a few creek crossings and some steady and steep climbs. It’s real deal cross country mountain biking! During this ride, we'll hear how local mountain bikers have shaped the GPLI proposal for the protection of public lands in Gunnison County and what the proposal would do to protect biking. These conversations include how the proposed Deer Creek Special Management Area will protect public lands from the valley floor to the top of some of the region’s most iconic 14,000 ft mountains and preserve the area’s backcountry feel and world-class mountain biking experience. We will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the CB four-way stop. We plan to be out until the afternoon, so please come prepared with bike gear, rain gear, water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent and anything else you may need for a day out in the backcountry - expect a 5 hour ride.
