For the third year in a row, Crested Butte Film Festival presents three nights of Oscar Nominated short films, February 15-17 at the Center for the Arts. The programs are divided into three genres with Documentary short films kicking off the series on Friday, February 15th. Live Action (or scripted and acted films) will follow on Saturday, February 16th. Showtimes for each are 7pm. The following afternoon at 2pm, Animated films will complete the program. Tickets for each show are $12 and are available at cbfilmfest.org, the Center for the Arts, and at the door. These programs of films are immensely popular with audiences around the world, and a filmmaker from each program will receive the vaunted Academy Award on live television during the Oscar broadcast, Sunday, February 24th. For everyone, especially those in Oscar pools, this is a wonderful opportunity to see the best short films in the world, and to also get a leg-up on the competition as you'll actually know what films you're choosing and not picking blindly. The Documentary program on February 15th contains 5 films, runs 137 minutes, and is Rated R (violence, language, and adult themes.) Live Action shorts, February 16, features 5 films, runs 108 minutes, and is also Rated R violence, language, and adult themes.) The Animated shorts program, 2pm, Sunday, February 17th, contains 8 short animated films, runs 75 minutes, and is a perfect apres-ski event for children 8 years and older as it is Rated PG (themes include Alzheimer’s disease, divorce and the death of a parent. Nothing offensive here, just slightly heavy themes.) The Oscar Nominated film programs are sponsored by Carolyn Niesman; Carol Blitz Smith and Tim Covington; and by Ingrid Gebavi. On March 2nd, Crested Butte Film Festival presents JONI 75: A BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION a live concert film featuring performances by James Taylor, Brandi Carlisle, Seal and many others celebrating the music of Joni Mitchell on her 75th birthday. The film is sponsored by Joel Benisch. The 9th annual Crested Butte Film Festival brings 100 films to town, along with thirty visiting filmmakers, September 26 -29, 2019.
