Big River Issues with Anne Castle
The Colorado River: Years of Living Dangerously

Add to your calendar
Date: March 18, 6:30 pm-8:00pm
Continues Until:
Location: Crested Butte Center for the Arts
Details: Water in the west is our most valuable resource. How could a changing hydrograph and downstream obligations impact our water future in the Gunnison Valley? The Gunnison Water Smart Group is an informal collaboration of water resource professionals, water managers, and elected officials in our valley who developed a shared mission to make water quality and quantity a priority and a driving force in our decision making and to facilitate local discussions about this crucial resource. To that end, we’re excited to collaborate with the Sonoran Institute to bring Anne Castle, former assistant secretary for water and science in the U.S. Department of the Interior and senior fellow at the University of Colorado School of Law to speak about Colorado River issues and engage in a conversation about how these issues may impact us locally. Anne has worked on water law and policy since the beginning of her career and while at the Interior Department, she oversaw the Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Geological Survey. Her presentation will be followed by a discussion hosted by John McClow, general counsel for the Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District and Colorado’s representative to negotiations among the seven Colorado River Basin states, the United States, and Mexico. Admission is free and there are no bad questions- please bring your curiosity and your friends!
