Join local historian Dave Primus for a Friday morning history talk and hike at Hartmans Recreation Area. We will start on Bambi’s Trail which leads you through granite formations, slick-rock, sand, and sage. This will be an easy hike and roughly 4 miles roundtrip. During this hike, we’ll hear about the interesting history of the Richardson Road Wagon Trail and Sylvester Richardson - the founder of Gunnison. Dave will describe how people of that time utilized the route in the 1870s to get to Lake City. You will also hear about how the GPLI is working to protect an underrepresented ecosystem - sagebrush steppe - in their legislative proposal and why that is important. We will meet at Mochas at 8:30 AM to carpool to the trailhead. We will be back before lunchtime so please come prepared with hiking boots, water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, and anything else you may need.
