Learn to research historical material in order to tell engaging stories that can take on a life of their own! Author Cara Guerrieri and Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum Curator Nel Burkett lead a workshop and discussion about how to begin writing history and the research that goes into the project. Ms. Guerrieri will discuss the methods she uses to research historical material to tell engaging stories that can take on a life of their own. She has a long career of writing for publications such as The Gunnison News, Crested Butte News, Gunnison Magazine, Crested Butte Magazine, Colorado Central Magazine, and her work with her mother and father, Richard and Phyllis Guerrieri, to publish their memoirs. Ms. Burkett, who regularly assists researchers like Guerrieri, will provide insight on how to best use local archives and effectively draw on many sources to find the historical content you need for your next story. She will share her experiences using primary sources and oral histories to develop exhibit text for the Museum and how this often results in discovering unknown and unique stories. Following the presentation, get started researching and writing your own historical narrative through guided exercises. Bring your own ideas about the history you would like to explore, and make this class an opportunity to get started writing! Click here for the event website |
