Marianne and Leonard: Words of Love
Add to your calendar
Date: January 16, 7:00 pm-10:00pm
Continues Until:
Location: Center for the Arts
Details: Let's start off with the hits: "So Long, Marianne." How about "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye." As we all fell in love in our teens and our twenties, these songs by Leonard Cohen became the language and vocabulary of those delightful, challenging feelings. If you went to art or music school, Cohen's songs were the badges you wore demonstrating your artsiness, your coolness, your familiarity and ease with the opposite sex. Leonard Cohen did the hard work for us, and we got to quote him and follow along in his brilliance.  Now where do you ask, did his inspiration actually come from? A lot of it came from his ten year relationship with Marianne Ihlen, his self-described "Norwegian muse" on the Greek island of Hydra (and what better place to have a relationship flower and prosper?) As detailed in the film, Marianne And Leonard: Words Of Love, by acclaimed filmmaker Nick Broomfield (Kurt and Courtney) we see the twists and turns of their newfound relationship and hear the poems and songs that came from their love. Marianne And Leonard: Words Of Love takes us on a magical tour of the Greek Isles at the height of the Sixties and shows us a powerful love story that had art and music as its by-product. Crested Butte Film Festival presents the film, Thursday, January 16, 7pm at the Center for the Arts. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at cbfilmfest.org, the Center, and at the door. The film has been called "a moving portrait of love. As much poetry as documentary" and "Incredible, remarkable, fantastic. A powerful love story"and has been sponsored by Carol Smith, Tim Covington and Elaine Blitz; and by KBUT. The 10th annual Crested Butte Film Festival brings 100 films and 30 filmmakers to town September 24-27, 2020. cbfilmfest.org
