 All are invited to wrap up Native American Heritage Month at Western with “Dinner & a Movie” on Tuesday, November 18. Dinner, Rare Air Café, 5-7 pm, Tuesday, November 18 Dinner kicks off the evening at Rare Air Café, where Executive Chef Kate Ladoulis has created a menu inspired by Native & Indigenous foods. The menu features staples such as Navajo tacos, catfish with pine nuts, calabacitas (sautéed squash, corn, and peppers), and fry bread with honey. The meal is included with any WCU meal plan, and individual meals may be purchased at the door. Movie, “Reel Injun,” Mountaineer Cinema, 7 pm, Tuesday, November 18 Following dinner, “Reel Injun” plays at the Mountaineer Cinema (UC Theatre). Produced by Cree filmmaker Neil Diamond, the documentary takes a look at the Hollywood Indian, examining how the myth of “the Injun” has influenced the world’s understanding — and misunderstanding — of Native and Indigenous peoples. The Native American Advisory Council organized this special evening in collaboration with the Native American Student Council, Rare Air Cafe, and Western Film. |
